SUBARU EJ25 2.5 litre BLOCK WITH PISTONS
AS DISASSEMBLED OE BLOCK STD BORES
THERE IS SOME VERY LIGHT SCUFFING TO ONE HALF OF THE BLOCK IN TWO PLACES, PLEASE SEE PICS 4 & 5
THIS WAS CAUSED BY TWO RODS 'RATTLING' THE BIG-END BEARINGS OUT BUT THE RODS STAYED ATTACHED TO THE CRANK AND NO FURTHER DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED
DUE TO THE VERY LIMITED CLEARANCE IN THE SUBARU CRANKCASE THE SLIGHT DISPLACEMENT OF THE RODS ON THE CRANK HAS CAUSED THEM TO 'RUB' THE BLOCK
TO BE FAIR THE DAMAGE IS VERY, VERY MINOR, DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH PISTON SIDE CUTOUTS IN ANY WAY, AND THERE IS NO SIGN OF SERIOUS CRACKING OR DAMAGE
IF YOU'RE STAYING AT STD BORE A COUPLE OF MINUTES WITH AN ABRASIVE ROLL TO TOUCH UP THE AREA SHOULD BE ALL THAT'S REQUIRED TO MAKE GOOD, IF YOU'RE GOING OVERSIZE IT'S NOT REALLY AN ISSUE ANYWAY
THE MAIN BEARING SHELLS ARE STILL TIGHT IN THE BLOCK, HAVE NOT BEEN SPUN or BLACKENED AND SHOW ONLY MINOR WEAR RELATIVE TO AGE AND USE
THE PISTONS ARE OK ENOUGH FOR A BUDGET REBUILD, BUT WILL NEED A MORE FUNDAMENTAL CLEAN UP BEFORE RE-USING
COMPLETE WITH PINS & CIRCLIPS
I'M FAIRLY CERTAIN ALL THE CRANKCASE CROSS BOLTS ARE THERE, BUT THERE MAY BE A COUPLE OF THE SMALLER ONES MISSING, BUT THAT'S NO DEAL BREAKER IF YOU WORK ON THESE ENGINES
