I've been teaching French for the best part of the last ten years in Asia, Africa and South America, to children, teenagers and adults alike.
The way I teach greatly depends on students' goals and preferences. For complete beginners, it might make sense to use a traditional yet interactive class material that gradually increase the difficulty and scope. With more advanced learners, however, choosing and analysing a topic, a grammar point, an article, a podcast, a song or a movie might be the way to go.
